U.S. Junior Men’s Team Triumphs Over Colombia

The United States defeated ninth-seeded Colombia 2-1 in the 9-12 playoffs Wednesday August 20 at the Wanderers Club in Windhoek, Namibia.

Team USA had previously lost to Malaysia 1-2, in the first round of the World Junior Men’s Team Championships 1-12 playoffs Tuesday.

Derek Hsue, at the No. 1 position in the first match, pushed his Colombian opponent to a close second game of 10-12, but was unable to capture a win, and lost in three sets.

Max Reed, playing No. 3 in the second match, heroically battled against Colombia’s Dairo Sandoval, winning the fifth (and final) game 15-13 to give the U.S. its first win.

Timothy Brownell, at the No. 2 spot, in the third and final match, clinched a win for the U.S. Team, keeping his scores consistent at 11-5 for each of the three games.

The twelfth-seeded U.S. Team is set to play eleventh-seeded Team Israel in the 9-16 Finals Wednesday August 20 at 6pm local time.
