After failing to win any of the four Regional Team Championship titles in 2014, Team Pennsylvania returned to the second edition of the tournament to win the Overall title at Yale University this weekend.

Defending overall champions, Team Connecticut, retained the U13 title, while Team New York scooped up the U15 and U17 titles.

The tournament’s second year built on the success of the inaugural event in 2014. The Regional Team Championships are the culminating event of the Regional Squads training program, which serves as an element of US Squash’s increased support for National Team player development.

The weekend took on a ‘camp style’ feel, with players staying with their teammates, eating together at the dining hall and being supervised by US Squash’s Regional Squad coaching team.

The elite selection of 110 juniors in the U13, U15, and U17 age divisions comprised the six teams representing seven regions: Connecticut, Great Lakes & Mid-Atlantic, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Coast.

“This event culminates the efforts of our regional and national coaches, and is the first time we had a Regional Team Championships take place alongside both a Junior and Senior National Squad as those team prepare for the World Junior Championships and Pan American Games respectively, ” said Rich Wade, Director of National Teams.

“Weekend’s like these provide an opportunity to clearly show the player pathway we are trying to carve out for aspiring Team USA players.”
