Harrity Progresses to Oregon Open Quarters; Malhotra Upsets Gordon in Five

Team USA’s Todd Harrity is through to the quarterfinals of the $15, 000 Oregon Open after a three-game victory over Malaysia’s Valentino Bong Wednesday at Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland.

The twenty-five-year-old Princeton graduate will face former Trinity No. 1 Vikram Malhotra in Thursday’s quarterfinals at 7pm local time.

Todd HarrityThe last match between the two former college squash stars was the 2012 College Squash Association team finals, where Harrity’s victory over Malhotra earned Princeton a national title, ending Trinity’s incredible run of thirteen consecutive men’s national team titles.

Malhotra, who won December’s Florida Open as a qualifier, reached the main draw as a qualifier where defeated American world No. 58 Chris Gordon in the first round.

Malhotra came back from 2-1 down in games to win 11-5, 5-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-6 in seventy-five minutes.

Apart from the Malhotra upset over fifth-seeded Gordon, seven of the eight seeds progressed to the quarterfinals.
After obtaining a lucky loser spot in the main draw, nine-time U.S. champion and Portland native Julian Illingworth fell against Egyptian two seed Karim Ali Fathi 11-5, 11-4, 11-4.
