Seven Americans Enter Egyptian Open by the Pyramids

Seven Americans will represent Team USA at the iconic CIB Egyptian Open–a PSA Platinum event–staged next to the Pyramids of Giza, September 10-17, in Egypt.

Todd Harrity, Shahjahan Khan and Faraz Khan–all boasting career high rankings this month–are set for first round action on the side courts Friday. Glass court play by the Pyramids begins with select third round matches from Sunday, September 12, on SquashTV and PSA Facebook Live.

Harrity, world No. 43, will be the first in action against Qatar’s world No. 75 Syed Azlan Amjad on court 4 6:45am EST. Shajahan Khan, world No. 45, opens his tournament against Egypt’s Mazen Gamal on court 2 at 8:30pm EST. Faraz Khan, world No. 61, will make his Egyptian Open debut against Egypt’s world No. 31 Mohamed El Sherbini on court 4 at 7:30pm local time, 1:30pm EST.

The four top-twenty-five-ranked U.S. women all receive first round byes and will enter the fold during Saturday’s second round. World No. 22 Olivia Fiechter faces higher-ranked opposition in the form of the tournament’s eight seed Rowan Elaraby on court 2 at 7:45am EST.

Sabrina Sobhy enters the tournament with a new career high ranking of world No. 18 and awaits Egypt’s world No. 9 Salma Hany on court 2 at 12:45pm EST. Sobhy won her last encounter against Hany in Egypt–an hour-long five-game Black Ball Open first round match.

World No. 6 Amanda Sobhy awaits either Holland’s Milou van der Heijden or Egypt’s Menna Nasser on court 3 at 12:45pm EST. World No. 12 Olivia Blatchford Clyne will play either France’s Melissa Alves or Hong Kong’s Tong Tsz-Wing at 11:00am EST. Second round wins from both Amanda Sobhy and Blatchford Clyne would set up a second consecutive match up between the U.S. teammates following Sobhy’s British Open third round win last month.
