Three Americans will vie for the Southwestern Open title as top five seeds, September 27-October 1, in the second edition of the PSA Gold event at the Houston Squash Club.
World No. 5 Amanda Sobhy, world No. 9 Olivia Fiechter and world No. 15 Olivia Blatchford Clyne all enter the top half of the draw with hopes of reaching the final, but may need to get past each other first.
The Southwestern Open was shaken up before the event with the withdrawal of world No. 1 Nouran Gohar due to injury. As a result, Amanda Sobhy shifted to the top of the draw as the two seed, opposing Egypt’s top seed and World No. 8 Nour El Tayeb in the draw’s bottom half.
Olivia Blatchford Clyne and Olivia Fiechter are seeded to meet each other in the quarterfinals, but will need to record second round wins first on Thursday, September 28.
Blatchford Clyne will face either Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica or Egypt’s Nada Abbas, while Fiechter will play either Finland’s Emilia Soini or Sana Ibrahim.
Amanda Sobhy will begin her campaign against either Egypt’s Jana Shiha or Scotland’s Georgia Adderley.
