Brownell and Harrity Advance to Windy City Open Third Round

Team USA’s Timmy Brownell and Todd Harrity recorded first round updets at the Windy City Open against top twenty-five-ranked opposition to reach the second round of the PSA Platinum event Wednesday, February 21, at the University Club of Chicago.

Brownell, world No. 41, marked his debut in the windy city on the glass court in the University Club’s picturesque cathedral hall with his first career win against India’s world No. 25 Suarav Ghosa 13-11, 2-11, 11-3, 14-12 in fifty-nine minutes.

“Saurav is one of my heroes,” Brownell said afterwards. “Ever since I saw him play Ramy Ashour in the World Team Championships about 10-15 years ago, I went to my dad and said: ‘Look at this guy, he grabs his arm, I used to play left handed, he’s like me and he’s giving Ramy a hard time’. He’s one of the fairest guys on tour, so hats off to him.”

Brownell will move to the University Club side courts for his second round match against Colombia’s Miguel Angel Rodriguez on Thursday at 2:45pm CT.

Brownell will be joined in the second round by U.S. teammate Todd Harrity, world No. 54, who upset Malaysia’s world No. 20 Eain Yow Ng on the side courts Wednesday. Harrity earned his third career first round win 11-5, 11-9, 11-2 in thirty-seven minutes.

Harrity will face France’s world No. 13 Baptiste Masotti on the side courts Thursday at 7:45pm CT.
