Team USA to Compete in 2015 Pan American Junior Championships

As squash grows at home, Team USA made squash history this year by heading to the British Junior Open Squash Championships in January — Team USA made squash history this year by heading to the British Junior Open Squash Championships in January. The U.S. juniors now revive the Team USA delegation to the Pan American Junior Championships.

For the first time in over a decade, Team USA will send a delegation of eight young men and women to compete in the annual Pan American Junior Championships, August 31-September 6, in Resistencia, Argentina.

The Pan American Junior Championship brings together junior competitors from all competing nations in North, Central, and South America. Similar to the adult Pan American Games, this event includes a team event, a singles competition and a softball doubles competition. US Squash will support a contingent of players as a development opportunity for the country’s top-ranked junior players, and will nominate eight players—four girls and four boys—to represent Team USA. The Pan American Junior Championships is yet another addition to the increasing list of opportunities for U.S. junior national team players. Earlier in 2015, US Squash organized the first Team USA British Junior Open trip, and also recently announced that the 2016 edition of the Battle of the Border will, for the first time, feature the U.S. team members competing against juniors from all of Canada.

With the Regional Team Championships on the horizon this month, there are now multiple opportunities for top-ranked U.S. junior players to experience elite-level team competition, with the goal of driving current and future success for Team USA at the highest level.

U.S. representation in Argentina this summer furthers US Squash’s goal of supporting regional and global squash initiatives to help ensure the long-term health of the sport. In addition to sending a team to the Pan American Junior Championships, US Squash nominated Andres Vargas, US Squash Senior Manager of Operations and International Relations, and Peter R. Lasusa, former US Squash Board Chairman, to be Federation Panamericano de Squash (FPS) Secretary and Regional Vice President for North America, respectively.
