Sixteen-year-old American Marina Stefanoni captured her third $5,5000 PSA title this spring at the BVI Open 2019, May 18, at the Tortola Sports Club in the British Virgin Islands.
Stefanoni, world No. 72, entered the draw as the top seed and progressed to the final without dropping a game. The American found herself two games down in the final, however, against Colombia’s two seed Laura Tovar, 7-11, 7-11. Stefanoni then mounted a comeback to clinch the title 7-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5.
The BVI title marks Stefanoni’s third in just as many months. In March, Stefanoni won the Bermuda Open as the two seed. In April, the Darien, Connecticut-native took the Bourbon Trail Event as the two seed before continuing her winning streak in the Caribbean.
Stefanoni, a three-time U.S. junior Open champion, will represent Team USA at the 2019 World Junior Championships this summer.
