BIO
Amanda Sobhy is one of the most accomplished and influential squash players in American history. Born on June 29, 1993, in Sea Cliff, New York, she made history in 2010 by becoming the first American to win the World Junior Squash Championship—an achievement that signaled the start of a groundbreaking career.
A graduate of Harvard University, Sobhy dominated college squash with an undefeated 62-0 record and four national titles, becoming one of the most decorated collegiate athletes in the sport. She turned professional in 2015 and quickly climbed the global rankings, ultimately reaching a career-high World No. 3 in October 2021—the highest ever by an American-born player.
Known for her dynamic playing style, relentless work ethic, and engaging personality, Sobhy is a six-time U.S. National Champion and a two-time triple gold medalist at the 2015 & 2019 Pan American Games. She has also helped lead Team USA to historic results, including a silver medal at the 2022 & 2024 Women’s World Team Championship.
Her journey has not been without challenges. In 2017, Sobhy suffered a devastating Achilles injury but made a remarkable comeback to get to a career high ranking of number 3 in October 2021. In December 2023, Sobhy unfortunately tore her other Achilles while competing in the finals of the Hong Kong Open. Having learned a lot the first time around, she once again made a remarkable comeback, becoming an inspiration and earning widespread admiration for her resilience both on and off the court. She has also been vocal about mental health, body image, and athlete wellness, becoming a strong advocate for authenticity in sports.
With her trailblazing achievements and dedication to growing the game, Amanda Sobhy continues to redefine what’s possible for American squash.
