Olivia Weaver made history by becoming the second U.S.-born player to reach world No. 3 following back-to-back Platinum final appearances at the Hong Kong Open and Tournament of Champions, while Sabrina Sobhy returned to the world’s top twenty for the first time since November 2024 Monday, February 3.
Weaver follows in the footsteps of U.S. teammate Amanda Sobhy, who held the No. 3 ranking for three months in 2021 and maintains her ranking of world No. 11 this month.
Weaver first broke into the world’s top five in May 2024, and has held a strong grip at the top of the women’s game ever since. Weaver first major milestone this season came in December when she reached her first career Platinum final at the Milwaukee Hong Kong Open. The thirty-year-old followed up her that performance with her third career Silver title at Squash in the Land in Cleveland in January and another Platinum appearance at the Sprott Tournament of Champions presented by Crowd Street.
Her performances in January–and former world No. 1 Nouran Gohar falling down the world rankings–sealed her place in the world’s top three. Weaver will have the opportunity to push the world’s top two for the rest of the season with the opportunity to make more history for Team USA.
Elsewhere in the February rankings, Sabrina Sobhy rose three places to world No. 20, marking the twenty-eight-year-old’s first appearance in the world’s top twenty since November 2024. Sobhy reached the final of the PSA Silver Squash in the Land where she lost out against Weaver.
On the men’s side, Timmy Brownell maintained his career-high ranking of world No. 26, further solidified with this upset of world No. 7 Marwan ElShorbagy in the Tournament of Champions first round. Nicholas Spizzirri rose two places to a new career high of world No. 93 as the upcoming Penn graduate continues to progress in his first season as a full-time professional.
