Five Americans Set to Compete in Black Ball Open

Five members of Team USA are set to compete in the first PSA World Tour Platinum event of 2021, the Black Ball Open in Cairo, with the women’s event taking place March 12-18, and men’s following on, March 19-25.

The U.S. will have four representatives in the women’s draw and two set to take part in opening day action on the all glass show court Friday, March 12.

World No. 33 Olivia Fiechter will take to the glass court in the second match of the tournament against Egypt’s world No. 49 Menna Nasser at 11:45am local time, 4:45am ET. Fiechter won her only other previous match against the twenty-seven-year-old in the final of the 2018 Rhode Island Open.

World No. 20 Sabrina Sobhy opens up her tournament against Malak Fathy, a fifteen-year-old wild card, Friday at 8pm local time, 1pm ET. Should Sobhy progress, world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini awaits in the second round on Saturday, March 13, at 1pm ET.

World No. 7 Amanda Sobhy enters the draw as the tournament’s six seed with a first round bye, and awaits the victor of Egyptian wild card Nadeen Kotb and England’s Julianne Courtice Saturday, March 14.

World No. 13 Olivia Blatchford Clyne also enjoys a first-round bye as a 9/16 seed, and will face either South African Alexandra Fuller or Cornell’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the second round Saturday.

World No. 55 Todd Harrity is the sole U.S. player in the men’s draw, and will play a career-first match up against Switzerland’s world No. 29 Nicholas Müller in the first round Friday, March 19, at 7:15pm, 12:15pm ET.
