Team USA Claims Fifth Straight Battle of the Border and First on Home Soil

Team USA claimed its fifth straight Battle of the Border victory over Canada–and first held on U.S. soil–with a resounding 27.75-2.25 scoreline, July 22-24, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.

The Battle of the Border has served as an integral part of US Squash National Team programming since its inception, providing players from the U13, U15 and U17 age categories the opportunity to represent Team USA in a team format–often for the first time. This experience helps prepare the players for potentially representing Team USA in the British Junior Open or World Junior Championships later in their junior careers.

The U.S. squad was led by coaches Christina Brownell, Lauren West, Lee Scott, Fabio Cechin, Jesse Brownell and Lyall Patterson.

“It was special to host the Battle of the Border in the U.S. for the first time, and we couldn’t thank Team Canada enough for a great weekend,” Brownell said. “Many of these players got to experience the feeling of having USA or Canada on their backs for the first time–something that can inspire them to even bigger and better things later on in their squash careers. Most importantly it was a weekend filled with fun, camaraderie, good sportsmanship and high quality squash.”
