Fifty-four players are set to represent Team USA against the world’s best juniors at the 2024 British Junior Open, January 3-7, in Birmingham.
The 2024 BJO marks Team USA’s tenth annual trip to England as a team. The BJO is considered to be akin to the World Junior Championships with the world’s top players competing in all age divisions from U11 to U19, while the World Juniors fields just the U19 division.
Last year, Team USA set a number of new records including its first title double–Madison Ho (GU17) and first boys champion Carlton Capella (BU13)–and new highs of five semifinalists and fifteen quarterfinalists–including a quarterfinalist in all ten divisions.
The U.S. is positioned for another strong performance with seven U.S. Junior Open champions and finalists earning a seeded position in the BJO draws.
GU19 champion Caroline Fouts is set to compete in her sixth BJO and enters the draw as the two seed, while finalist Riya Navani joins Fouts as a 3/4 seed. BU19 champion Rishi Srivastava and World Juniors quarterfinalist Hollis Robertson lead the U.S. men as 5/8 seeds in the BU19 draw.
Two-time U.S. Junior Open GU13 champion Vivienne Sze leads the BJO draw as the top seed. Team USA occupies the top two seeds in the GU11 division with top seed Kaylee Li–the UJSO GU11 champion–and two seed Megha Ravichandran.
In the U15 divisions, Brandan Tagliarini–a USJO finalist–enters as a 3/4 seed. USJO GU15 champion Charlotte Sze and Reghan McLaughlin both enter the BJO draw as 5/8 seeds.
“On the players front, we are traveling with an exciting squad full of talent, youth and experience and incredible depth and that’s the testament to the growth of squash in the United States. We’re also excited to have world No. 14 and former BJO champion Olivia Clyne join our experienced coaching staff this year,” said Karim Ibrahim, US Squash Director of Junior National Teams.
