U.S. Men to Face Hosts Hong Kong in World Teams Playoffs; Women Earn Two Seed

The U.S. Men’s and Women’s National teams have topped their respective pools at the 2024 WSF World Team Championships with three wins over the course of two days, December 9-10, as both sides earn top eight seeds going into the playoff rounds at the Hong Kong Football Club.

After a double match day to open up the tournament on Monday saw the U.S. sides earn two wins each to set up a final round of matches on Tuesday for a chance to clinch pool wins.

The U.S. women clinched the group and earned the two seed in the knock out rounds with a 3-0 team win against Germany. Amanda Sobhy, Marina Stefanoni and Caroline Fouts provided the win for the U.S. and earned a first-round bye in the 1-12 women’s team playoffs and will await the winner of Australia and India. World No. 4 Olivia Weaver continues her recovery from an injury sustained in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open last week with the goal of returning for the knock out rounds.

The U.S. men took to the glass court on Tuesday against China and all three men produced 3-0 victories in under thirty minutes. Spencer Lovejoy, Nicholas Spizzirri and Dillon Huang all stepped up to win for the U.S. and earn the seven seed in the knock out stages.
