The U.S. Women’s National Team moved one step closer to the World Team Championship final after a 2-0 win over India in the quarterfinals Thursday, December 12, at the Hong Kong Football Club.
The U.S. women, who finished second for the first time in program history two yeas ago in Egypt, has ensured another podium finish with their quarterfinal win against India. Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy and Caroline Fouts earned the win with two dominant performances in three games under half an hour.
No. 3 Fouts led off the match against Nirupama Dubey and sped to an 11-1, 11-5, 11-4 victory to set up No. 1 Amanda Sobhy. After winning a tight opening game 12-10 against Anahat Singh, Sobhy pulled through 11-4, 11-3 in twenty minutes to win the team match for the U.S.
The U.S. will take on Malaysia for a spot in the finals after the unseeded nation upset four seeds England in their quarterfinal match up. Watch the semifinal live at 6am ET on wsfworldteams.com.
The U.S. men continued their play in the 12-16 playoffs, and fell short against Spain. The men will face Czechia next on Friday at 4:30am ET.
