Team USA continued its historic performance at the 2025 British Junior Open with a record six semifinalists, led by Christian Capella upsetting the BU19 top seed in the quarterfinals Saturday in Birmingham, England.
Capella, whose younger brother, Carlton, became the first American boy’s BJO champion in 2023, opened up the top half of the BU19 draw with a major upset over Malaysia’s top seed Harith Danial Jefri. Jefri had not dropped a game all tournament, but the 5/8-seeded American ended his run in straight games 11-4, 11-7, 11-8. Capella will face Egypt’s 5/8 seed Eiad Daoud on the glass court at 12:20pm ET.
“That was awesome, I really enjoyed that!” said the 17-year-old from New York. “I knew he’d had a bit of a struggle in earlier matches and I knew I was playing well. I came into today’s match super confident and it paid off. It’s great having this venue, the showcourt and SquashTV.”
Alexander Dartnell, a 9/16 seed, joined Capella in the BU19 semifinals with a 3-0 win against Malaysian 3/4 seed Low Wa-Sern. Dartnell will face Egypt’s two seed Youssef Salem for a spot in the final Sunday at 3:40pm ET.

After a 3-1 quarterfinal win, Elriani advances to face Egypt’s top seed Adam Hawal on the glass court at 9:40am ET. Wang won her quarterfinal 12-10 in the fifth game to set up a semifinal against Egypt’s two seed Farida Hakim at 6:20am ET.
