Amanda Sobhy Captures Second PSA Bronze Title of the Season in DC

Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy captured her second PSA Bronze title of the season, winning the $58,750 Squash on Fire Open Sunday, April 27, in Washington, DC.

Sobhy entered the Squash on Fire Open with her most positive momentum of the season, having returned to the world’s top ten rankings for the first time and with one PSA Bronze title already under her belt this season–the German Open in March.

The American entered the draw as the tournament’s three seed and progressed to the final without dropping a game, where she met Malaysia’s four seed and world No. 19 Rachel Arnold.

Sobhy went on to record her second win of the season against Arnold to clinch the title 11-4, 11-3, 9-11, 11-9 in thirty-three minutes.

“I feel really good,” said Sobhy after the match. “I’m happy to just get another title this season and to have a great week here in D.C. I think Rachel [in game three] started to find her targets, step up a gear and hit some incredible winners so it made things a bit more intense. It’s tough she has nothing to lose and so I just went in there and tried to keep my composure, take it a few points at a time really and stay present. Trust my game plan. Trust my movement. Trust the work I’ve done and know that whatever she throws at me, I’ll be able to handle it.”

Following the tournament, Sobhy’s performance sent her up two places to world No. 8 in the PSA rankings–her highest ranking this season since returning from a second Achilles rupture.

Sobhy now enters the PSA World Championships in Chicago, May 9-16.
