American Trio Target Platinum Breakthrough at El Gouna Open

Olivia Weaver at the Australian Open

Team USA’s Olivia Weaver, Amanda Sobhy and Timmy Brownell will aim to progress through the El Gouna Open–the first PSA Platinum event since January’s Tournament of Champions–this weekend, April 12-13 in Egypt.

The El Gouna Open presents opportunities for all three players with world ranking implications on the line, and potential clashes with the world’s top players. Early round matches will take place at local clubs before later rounds move to the all glass show court staged by the seaside harbor. Watch all matches live on squash.tv. Brownell enters the tournament with the world No. 33 ranking and will face world No. 31 Ramit Tandon in the first round Saturday at 11:30am ET as he seeks to break back into the world’s top thirty for the first time since February.

Olivia Weaver is set for her first PSA appearance since winning the PSA Gold Australian Open title last month. The tournament’s four seed, Weaver will have her sights set on clashing with world No. 1 Nouran Gohar in the semifinals, and will open up her campaign against Egypt’s world No. 37 Menna Hamed Saturday at 11:30am ET.

Weaver enters the same quarter of the draw as teammate Amanda Sobhy, who returns to El Gouna with a season-high ranking of world No. 10. Sobhy will face New Zealand’s Joelle King in the first round for the second time in as many months, after defeating the Kiwi in five games at the Optasia Open last month. Sobhy and King will play at 10:45am ET.
