Weaver Becomes First American to Compete for PSA World Tour Finals Title

World No. 4 Olivia Weaver became the first American to reach the finals of the PSA World Tour Finals in what will also mark her first appearance in a major final Thursday, June 26, at Toronto’s Revival Film Studios.

The PSA World Tour Finals features eight of the world’s top men and women who qualified for the season-ending event based on their performances in 2024-2025 Platinum events. The tournament employs a best-of-three games format throughout Group play and the semifinals, and a best-of-five games final.

Weaver progressed to the semifinals after topping Group B with three wins over Japan’s world No. 7 Satomi Watanabe, Malaysia’s world No. 8 Sivasangari Subramaniam and Egypt’s world No. 14 Fayrouz Abouelkheir.

The American secured her spot in the finals Thursday, June 26, by defeating England’s world No. 10 11-3, 11-2 in eighteen minutes.

“I was definitely a lot happier with my performance today compared to the last few days,” said Weaver afterwards. “It was great to have Rod [Martin, coach] come in last night, he came on court and worked on a few things. I felt more confident about my swing today. You’re on the road for a period of time and if you stop working on things a lot of factors come into it. I got back in my zone today and I knew I had to play really well to beat Gina, she’s been playing well this week and she’s always tough to play.”

Weaver will compete for her first major title against Egypt’s world No. 1 Nouran Gohar Friday, June 27, at 7pm ET in what will be their third encounter this season. Gohar previously defeated Weaver in the semifinals of the Qatar Classic in October and Tournament of Champions semifinals in January.
