Amanda Sobhy dubbed the 2024-2025 season as her “comeback” season following the second achilles rupture of her career. Sobhy, the only American to ever reach world No. 3, proved that she could return to top form over the course of the season, returning to the world’s top ten by the end of the year. This season, Sobhy will be focused on peak performance and challenging the world’s best.

What are your goals going into this season?
My goals this season are to stay healthy, happy and injury-free, but also to challenge for a spot in the Top 5 again and get some wins versus the Top 5 and look to win some bigger events. I had a great comeback season last year, but now I’m feeling confident in my movement and game and looking to assert myself back in the Top 5 again.
What tournaments are you looking forward to most?
I love the tournaments on home soil, so Silicon Valley, U.S. Open, Tournament of Champions. I’m going into my 16th season on the PSA tour, so I like to play in tournaments where I have good memories, there’s a good atmosphere and I can fully enjoy myself out there.
Is there anything you are changing or approaching differently this season?
My mindset and approach to the game is a lot different nowadays. I’m the oldest in the Top 20 and have been on tour for far longer than a lot of the other girls on tour, so I can’t compare myself to them, or try to train or play the way they do. I’m not in my mid-twenties anymore. I have battle wounds in my body. I need to train differently; I need to play differently. I need to be smart and use my brain, tactics and experience against this next generation rather than try to compete with them physically. It’s exciting to find new ways to approach the game and my training. It keeps me going and I feel like I’m still learning new things every day which I love.
If last season was your comeback season, what do you want this season to be?
I’m shopping a few different ideas, but nothing has quite stuck with me yet. I’ll have to see what comes to me once I start the season, but I’m excited to take it to them all and show everybody that you cannot write me off… ever!
Anything else you would like to add about this upcoming season?
My passion for the game and to improve as a player and person is at an all-time high combined with the fact that I have so many years of experience to draw from, so I’m looking forward to the challenge that this season will bring.
