Weaver Makes First Career Platinum Final Appearance in Hong Kong

Team USA’s Olivia Weaver reached her first career PSA Platinum final at the Hong Kong Open, December 7, becoming just the second American to ever reach the final stage of the world’s biggest professional events.

Weaver, world No. 5, returned to Hong Kong motivated to improve upon her 2024 performance where she reached reached the semifinals but exited the match early due to injury against then world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini.

Weaver set up a rematch against the nine-time world champion Egyptian by reaching the final without dropping a game all tournament. It was the Egyptian who came out on top in a three-game final to earn her second career Hong Kong Open title, but the milestone remains a major step for the American’s ascent and professional aspirations to reach the top of the game.

Weaver follows U.S. teammate Amanda Sobhy, who has reached four Platinum finals in her career so far–including two Hong Kong Open finals in 2023 and 2016.

Weaver’s next opportunity to reach a Platinum final will be on home soil at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, January 21-29, where she enters the Sprott Tournament of Champions presented by Crowd Street as the four seed.
