Olivia Weaver claimed the fourth PSA Silver title of her career, while Sabrina Sobhy displayed a resounding return to form at the Squash in the Land final Sunday, January 18, in Cleveland, Ohio.
The two women entered the tournament on opposite ends of the draw with world No. 5 Weaver leading the draw as the top seed and Sobhy entered the bottom half of the draw unseeded. Weaver progressed to the final without dropping a game, including a quarterfinal win against U.S. teammate and world No. 21 Marina Stefanoni.
Sobhy, who has been coming back this season after an injury-derailed 2024-2025 campaign, entered the tournament ranked world No. 36. Sobhy tore through the bottom half of the draw, including notable upsets over four seed Rachel Arnold, eight seed Hollie Naughton and a semifinal win over two seed and world No. 14 Nele Gilis.
The all-American final saw the higher-ranked Weaver complete a perfect tournament run, capturing the title in straight games against her teammate.
“I’m feeling great, it’s the perfect way to start off the New Year,” Weaver said. “I always enjoy playing here in Cleveland, it’s one of those tournaments that all of the players love playing in. To be here and win the title against Sabrina. She played well to get past Nele yesterday, so I knew that she was going to be up for it. It was tough conditions out there with the light, it was tricky for both of us. But I’m happy with how I played my way through it. I found a way to get through. Going into the New Year I’m just trying to trust myself on court more, trust my skills, trust my ability to be able to read each rally as it comes. I felt like I did that this week.”
Both Americans enjoyed a significant rankings boost with the result as Weaver returned to her career high World No. 4, while Sobhy jumped thirteen places to world No. 23.
