Weaver to Face World No. 1 El Hammamy in Maiden Tournament of Champions Final

Olivia Weaver

World No. 4 Olivia Weaver became the first American finalist since Amanda Sobhy in 2022 following a commanding semifinal performance against Egypt’s world No. 8 Fayrouz Aboelkheir at the Sprott Tournament of Champions presented by crowd street Wednesday, January 28.

Weaver has stormed her way through the Platinum draw to reach her first career final in Grand Central Terminal this week, which she emphatically clinched by defeating the nineteen-year-old in three games and twenty-eight minutes.

“It means the world to me [reaching the final in New York],” Weaver said. “This was the first professional tournament I ever watched as a junior. I was eight years old and I came to see a match with my coach and I was just in awe of the players. I definitely didn’t see this in the future, seeing myself on court here let alone making it into the final. It means the world to play in front of this crowd and I’m very, very excited.”

Weaver has now reached the finals of back-to-back Platinum events after reaching the Hong Kong Open final last month–the first two Platinum final appearances of her career.

The thirty-year-old American now has the opportunity to become the first American to win a PSA Platinum title Thursday night at 7pm ET.
