Team USA’s world No. 4 Olivia Weaver overcame her U.S. teammate Marina Stefanoni to reach the semifinals of the PSA Silver Squash in the Land presented by Porche Beachwood Thursday, January 16, at the UH Drusinksy Sports Medicine Institute.
The American trio of Weaver, Stefanoni and Sabrina Sobhy all started off their calendar years on a winning note with Stefanoni setting up the quarterfinal match up against Weaver in four games against Hong Kong’s Tomato Ho.
In their first PSA match up of the season and third of their careers, Weaver maintained her unbeaten record against Stefanoni, advancing 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 in twenty-seven minutes.
Weaver, the top seed, will take on England’s three seed Jasmin Hutton next Saturday at 2:15pm ET.
Sobhy will aim to join Weaver in the semifinals as she prepares for her quarterfinal match against Canada’s eight seed Hollie Naughton Friday night at 7pm ET. After a 3-0 first round win, Sobhy upset Malaysia’s four seed Rachel Arnold in four games to reach the last eight.
