Weaver Reaches Maiden Windy City Open Semifinals

Team USA’s world No. 3 Olivia Weaver reached her first career semifinal at the Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family following a 3-0 quarterfinal win over world No. 7 Fayrouz Aboelheir Monday, February 9, at the University Club of Chicago.

Weaver, who has reached the finals of the last two Platinum events she has competed in–December’s Hong Kong Open and January’s Tournament of Champions–reached her fourth consecutive Platinum semifinal without dropping a game in Chicago.

In a rematch of her recent Tournament of Champions semifinal, the American replicated her 3-0 win over Aboelkheir, winning 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 in twenty-six minutes.

“I am very happy with that performance,” Weaver admitted after the match, “I played Fayrouz last week in New York, so I knew she would be coming out here looking for revenge, and I was ready for it and up for it. I was feeling good, I enjoyed my day off yesterday, I got some good work in and I was able to sharpen up.”

Weaver will take on Egypt’s world No. 2 Amina Orfi in the semifinals Tuesday, February 10, at 7pm local time, 8pm ET.

“I am very happy with how I was able to manage the match,” Weaver said. “She is incredibly dangerous if you give her the middle, so I was just trying to play my game and stay in front and I am very happy that was executed.”
