Weaver Succumbs to Injury in El Gouna Semifinals

Team USA’s Olivia Weaver was forced to exit the El Gouna International Squash semifinals early due to a hamstring injury Thursday, April 9, in Egypt.

The world No. 4 reached her fifth consecutive Platinum semifinal in Egypt as the four seed, progressing to the semis with a 3-0 win over eight seed and world No. 10 Georgina Kennedy.

Weaver had been nursing her hamstring throughout the tournament and aggrivated the injury just before her semifinal encounter with the world No. 2. Weaver was forced to leave the court early in the second game and concede the match.

“Have been doing my best to manage a healing hamstring strain all week,” Weaver posted after the match on instagram. “I was excited to compete tonight but unfortunately, it took a bad turn in my warm up just before stepping on for my semifinal. Hoping it’s nothing too serious. Thank you to everyone for the messages and support.”

Weaver’s upcoming events include the Desai Family U.S. Women’s Championship at the end of April, and the PSA World Championships and British Open in May.
