For the third time in program history, the U.S. Junior Men and Women advanced to the semifinals of the World Squash Junior Team Championships alongside each other after quarterfinal victories Wednesday, July 29, at the White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-lake, Canada.

The U.S. Junior Men, the tournament’s two seeds, were the first on court in the afternoon against Japan. Yaseen Shalaby put the U.S. on the scoreboard first with a 3-0 opening win in the No. 1 position against Shunsaku Kariyazono. No. 2 Lars Gertson followed on and sealed the match for Team USA with another 3-0 win against Ren Makino. No. 3 Brendan Tagliarini rounded out the performance with a 2-0 dead rubber win.
The U.S. Junior Men advance to the fourth semifinal in program history as they target just a second appearance in the World Junior Team Championship finals. The U.S. will take on five seeds India who upset three seeds England 2-1 in their quarterfinal match up.
The U.S. Junior Women, the three seeds, overcame a stark challenge from five seeds India. Recently-crowned World Junior Champion Anahat Singh put India on the board first with a 3-0 win over American No. 1 Diya Yadav. Charlotte Sze rescued a point for the U.S. in the No. 2 position with a 3-0 win against Rudra Singh to set up a deciding match between the No. 3’s. Team USA’s Lily Bourell rose to the challenge to seal the comeback victory for the U.S. with a 3-0 win against Anika Dubey.
The U.S. Junior Women will face ten-time defending champions Egypt in the semifinals after the top seeds defeated Australia 3-0.
