Timmy Brownell became the second American to ever reach world No. 24 in the men’s world rankings, matching Julian Illingworth’s long-standing record, following his Charlottesville Open Victory Monday, October 12.
Brownell becomes just the third American man to ascend into the world’s top twenty-five in the softball era, joining Illingworth and Shahjahan Khan.
Brownell started the new season with the biggest upset of his career over world No. 3 Diego Elias in September’s Qatar Classic, the first Platinum event of the season. Last week, the twenty-nine-year-old American successfully defended his Charlottesville Open title as the top seed, adding another PSA Copper title to his trophy cabinet.
Most recently, the Harvard graduate earned a first round victory at the PSA Diamond Egyptian Open before exiting the tournament against world No. 8 Joel Makin.
Brownell will return stateside for his next PSA appearance at the U.S. Open powered by Comcast Business, November 1.
