Team USA’s Olivia Weaver continued her strong start to the 2024-2025 season by reaching the her first PSA Platinum semifinals at the Qatar Classic, sending the American back to No. 4 in the world rankings.
Weaver, who started the season ranked world No. 5, reached the Paris Open quarterfinals in her first event of the season, eventually losing out against world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini.
Weaver entered the Qatar Classic draw as the five seed and progressed to the quarterfinals without dropping a game where she faced Belgium’s world No. 4 Nele Coll. Weaver produced the most important win of her season in the quarterfinals, overcoming the Belgian 11-8, 2-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6 in seventy-two minutes.
The result sent the American into her maiden Qatar Classic semifinal where she fell short against Egypt’s world No.2 Nouran Gohar in a close four games.
The result sent Weaver back to the world’s top four and her career high ranking the week of October 6.
Weaver now returns stateside to compete as the Silicon Valley Open’s top seed in San Francisco, October 11-16 and Comcast Business U.S. Open four seed in Philadelphia, October 19-26.
