Ubina wins Pioneer Cup title

Maria Elena Ubina, the #1 ranked GU19 player in the U.S., defeated Nele Gilis of Belgium in the finals of the 2012 Pioneer Cup in Cologne, Germany.  Ubina, who will represent the United States at next months World Junior Squash Championships in Qatar, took home the top prize in five games, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8.

The Pioneer, which is one of the top tournaments on the European junior calendar, also saw Amercan Lindsay Scott reach the GU17 finals, while on the boy’s side,  Faraz Khan reached the round of 16 in the BU19 division, with Jordan Brail and Anders advancing to the quarterfinals in the BU17 draw.
