Ubina & Hanson Settle for Silver; U.S. Seeded in Team Competitions

U.S. Mixed Doubles team Maria Elena Ubina & Chris Hanson earned silver medals at the Pan American Olympic Festival after losing in the final against top-seeded Colombians Catalina Palaez & Miguel Angel Rodriguez Wednesday night in Toluca, Mexico.

Rodriguez, world No. 13 and gold medal winner of the Men’s individual competition, and Trinity College Alum Palaez clinched another Colombian gold medal with an 11-4, 11-9, victory.

Ubina & Hanson’s silver medals add to Olivia Blatchford’s women’s individual bronze medal for Team USA.

The third and final competitions of the Pan American Olympic Festival, the Men’s and Women’s Team Championships, commence today with both U.S. sides entering Thursday’s pool play seeded.

The U.S. women top the competition as top seeds and will first face [4/6] seeds Colombia this afternoon, then [7/9] seeds Argentina this evening in Group A pool play.

On the men’s side, the U.S. is seeded [3/4] with Group D opponents Venezuela and Trinidad & Tobago Thursday.

Team play includes three players per team, with best of three overall match scoring.
