The United States defeated Canada 23.75-7.75 to lift a seventh straight Battle of the Border trophy this weekend, August 3-4, at White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.
Canada hosted the Battle of the Border at the same venue where the tournament was founded twenty years ago. Twenty-four players representing each country competed across U13, U15 and U17 boys and girls divisions.
The U.S. squad was led by coaches Karim Ibrahim, Lyall Patterson, Chris Longman, Vanessa Raj, Sam Fenwick, Will Newnham and Olivia Taylor.
“Massive thanks to the Canadian team director, Samantha Cornett for welcoming us and for everyone at White Oaks Hotel and Resorts for hosting us,” said Karim Ibrahim, Director of National Teams. “Team USA competed fiercely on both the team’s front as well as softball doubles. They represented their country with amazing performances and sportsmanship. We are so proud of all of our players, especially team captains: Winn Metrailler and Riya Shankaran. Massive thanks to all of our coaches. We are looking forward to host the Canadian team next year in Philadelphia!”
The Battle of the Border has served as an integral part of US Squash National Team programming since its inception, providing players from the U13, U15 and U17 age categories the opportunity to represent Team USA in a team format–often for the first time. This experience helps prepare the players for potentially representing Team USA in the British Junior Open or World Junior Championships later in their junior careers.
