Amanda Sobhy set a new recovery milestone this season, reaching the world’s top ten PSA rankings at world No. 10 this week, April 7, for the first time since sustaining a second Achilles rupture in December 2023.

Sobhy’s ascent back up the world rankings has accelerated in 2025 after finding her footing throughout the start of the season since August. Sobhy began the season with pinned rankings points following her return from injury that enabled her maintain a top fifteen ranking and compete in top events throughout the fall. Once those points fell off in December, Sobhy dropped down to world No. 30 and began her climb back up the rankings.

The American immediately made progress in the new year, reaching the PSA Silver Squash in the Land final in January and reaching the PSA Platinum Tournament of Champions second round. Those results shot her back up to the world’s top twenty, where she continued her push in February by reaching the PSA Silver Cincinnati Gaynor Cup final.

Last month, Sobhy recorded her best stretch of the season by defeating world No. 7 Georgina Kennedy in the PSA Bronze German Open final–her first title since her competitive return.

“I’m really proud of myself,” Sobhy said following her German Open win. “It’s been a long road to get back, I’ve been in three finals this season–which is my comeback season–to be able to get over the hump, especially over a great player. This win really means a lot.”

“I’ve had the last five weeks to really put in the work with my team and I think it showed this week,” Sobhy said. “Honestly, when you put in the work, I trust my body, I trust everything I’ve done with my team, and I can just go out there and have fun and that’s what I did. It was a really nice feeling and I think it showed in my squash. I’m moving well, I’m feeling good and I’m enjoying my game so I think I can do really great things this season.”

A few days after her title, Sobhy defeated former world No. 3 Joelle King in the PSA Gold Optasia Open in England before narrowly exiting in five games against world No. 9 Satomi Watanabe.

Sobhy’s results in March were a stark contract to March 2024, when Sobhy was making her first steps without assistance following surgery. Her inspirational return to form continues on the PSA Platinum stage this weekend at the El Gouna Open where she will face King again in the first round Saturday, April 12.
