Six Americans Reach World Junior Individuals Round of Sixteen

Team USA will have three six representatives in the 2025 World Junior Squash Championships round of sixteen after a strong opening two days of play at the Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo, Egypt.

Eight of the nine Americans fulfilled or exceeded their seedings in the first three rounds of play, and all nine players won their opening matches.

Ahmed Haq and Diya Yadav, both unseeded players, reached the third round with two opening wins. Yadav eventually lost out against Egtpt’s ¾ seed in four games. Haq upset 17/32 and 9/16 seeds on his way to the round of sixteen where he will face U.S. Junior Open champion and ¾ seed Marwan Asal on the glass court at 3pm local time.

Fifteen-year-old Charlotte Sze and Hart Robertson both marked their World Juniors debuts by fulfilling her 17/32 seed with a second round wins before exiting the main draw against higher seeds.

Charlotte Pastel, Samantha Jaffe, Alexandra Jaffe and Jack Elriani all fulfilled their 9/16 seeds. Sixteen-year-old Elriani marked his World Juniors debut with three main draw wins, including a five-game win to reach the round of sixteen where he will face Colombia’s 5/8 seed and Pan American Juniors Gold Medalist.

U.S. Junior Champion Alexandra Jaffe has earned the opportunity to face two-time reigning world junior champion and world No. 5 Amina Orfi with two main draw wins. Jaffe and Orfi will square off at 12:30pm local time, 5:20am ET.

Pastel has yet to drop a game in two matches and will face Egypt’s ¾ seed on the glass court at 1pm local time, 6am ET. Samantha Jaffe overcame Canada’s 17/32 seed in a close four games to set up a round of sixteen match up against Egypt’s 5/8 seed at 1pm local time, 6am ET.

Christian Capella, a 5/8 seed, will have the opportunity to reach his first World Juniors quarterfinal against Pakistan’s unseeded Mohammed Alnasfan at 1:30pm local time, 6:30am ET.

Alex Dartnell, a 5/8 seed, recorded two 3-0 wins before losing out against U.S.-based Belgian international Maddox Moxham. Oscar Okonkwo, a 17/32 seed, recorded two main draw wins before falling against a 5/8 seed.
