Twelve-year-old American Marina Stefanoni upset three of the top four seeds in the Canadian Junior Open to win the Girls’ U15 division at White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, this weekend.

Last March, Stefanoni captured her second consecutive national title—the girls’ U13 division as an eleven year old—and this weekend earned honors in a higher age group.

The Darien, CT-native pulled off her first upset against Mexican [3/4] seed Dina Anguiano in the quarterfinals recovering from 2-0 down to win 10-12, 8-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-7.

Stefanoni then reached the final with a four-game victory over second-seeded Canadian Andrea Toth 11-7, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6. Up against top-seeded Canadian Mariam Mansoor, Stefanoni ran away with the title in three games 11-3, 12-10, 11-8.

Stefanoni will compete in the U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships Girls’ U13 division this weekend.
