Chris Hanson & Chris Gordon won Team USA’s third squash medal in Toronto Monday night, men’s doubles bronze, losing out to Canada’s Schnell brothers, Andrew and Graeme, in a close semifinal Monday night.

The 3/4-seeded American duo reached Monday’s semifinals following a difficult opener against Guatemala’s Bryan Bonilla & Josue Enriquez that saw the Americans score four consecutive points to win the first game 11-10, before closing out the match 11-7 in the second.

Monday’s semifinal saw both sides even at 10-10 in the first game, with the Canadians claiming the tie-breaker after a marathon rally to lead 1-0 in games. The brothers Schnell continued to press in the second game, maintaining their advantage until closing out the match 11-6 to earn a place in the gold medal match Tuesday night.

Their Bronze medals mark Gordon’s third squash doubles medal at the Pan Am Games, adding to his 2011 men’s doubles silver and bronze team medals, while the bronze is Hanson’s first medal at the Pan Am Games. The duo were awarded their medals in a special presentation Tuesday night following the doubles finals, and begin their campaign for a team medal Wednesday morning against Guatemala.
