Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy reclaimed her highest career world ranking of No. 7 in September following her second career appearance in a World Series final at the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Open.

In a career first, the twenty-three year old defeated a world No. 1-ranked player, Nour El Sherbini, in the semifinals. Egyptian sensation and world junior champion, Nouran Gohar, then edged the American in a close four-game final.

The final appearance positions Sobhy in second in the PSA Dubai World Series Finals standings after the first World Series tournament of the season.

Sobhy has a busy few month ahead of her with the Al Ahram International in Egypt, September 19-23, NetSuite Open in San Francisco, September 25-October 1, and Delaware Investments U.S. Open in Philadelphia, October 6-15.

“Gutted to lose in the finals 3-1 after being 1-0 and 10-7 up in the second, but all credit to my opponent who was absolutely relentless, ” Sobhy shared with her Facebook page. “Overall, it has been a great week here in Hong Kong and a great start to the new season. Looking forward to getting back to Boston now to work on a few things before the next tournaments come mid-September. Hoping to keep building the momentum after Hong Kong Open and improve my ranking bit by bit. Thank you for all of the support this week! Truly means a lot.”
