Team USA Takes Down Guatemala in Women’s World Team Opener

Team USA is off to a flying start in the 2014 World Squash Federation Women’s World Team Championship with three, three-game victories over Guatemala at White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

With the order of play set as 2, 1, 3, the sixth-seeded U.S. lined up with Olivia Blatchford, Amanda Sobhy, and player-coach Natalie Grainger against [17/20]-seeded Guatemala in Group C.

Blatchford, world no. 39, opened proceedings 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 in seventeen minutes against Pamela Anckermann. Amanda Sobhy, world No. 10, clocked in with a fourteen-minute 11-3, 11-1, 11-2 win in the number one slot against Winifer Bonilla. Player-coach Natalie Grainger ended the tie with the quickest victory, twelve minutes, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 over Nicolle Anckermann.

The opening match against Guatemala is Team USA’s only match on Monday. Tuesday looms with two matches with southern and northern neighbors Mexico and hosts Canada.

Mexico, seeded [13/16], will be Team USA’s first test at 11:00am ET on Court 5, which will not be streamed live. An evening match against eleventh-seeded Canada will be showcased on the glass court and streamed live at 6:00pm ET.
