U.S. Juniors Find Individual Success on European Summer Circuit

Top junior squash players from around the world have been competing on the European junior circuit this summer, including U.S. players who have claimed titles and made surprise runs.

Before the World Juniors, more than forty U.S. players competed in the Cologne Junior Open, formerly known as the Pioneer Open, in Germany, July 6-10.

In the Boys’ U19 division, U.S. junior champion Andrew Douglas claimed the title without dropping a game, defeating world juniors teammate Cole Becker in the final. Becker made a run to the final as a 17/32 seed, upsetting Canada’s two seed Michael Mehl in the semifinal.

Team USA’s Serena Daniel claimed a second U.S. title in Cologne in the GU15 division as a 3/4 seed, including coming back from 2-0 down to win a five-game final. In the Dutch Junior Open, July 13-16, Daniel continued her successful run, finishing as GU15 runner up.

Elsewhere in Amsterdam, Daelum Mawji won the BU17 title as a 3/4 seed without dropping a game all tournament. In the BU19 draw, Charles Culhane made a run to the final as a 17/24 and placed second.
