Six American Men Set for Tournament of Champions Qualifying

Three of the men’s world team championship squad will compete in Tournament of Champions qualifying in hopes of joining Todd Harrity in the main draw, (l-r): Chris Gordon, Faraz Khan, Chris Hanson, Todd Harrity.

Six American men, including three members of the 2017 Men’s World Team Championship squad, are set to compete in the first round of qualifying for the 2018 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions Tuesday evening, January 16, at local New York City clubs.

New York City-native Chris Gordon is set to make his fifteenth career appearance at the ToC in search of his third career main draw appearance. The world No. 61 takes on England’s world No. 40, Tom Richards, at the Harvard Club at 7pm ET.

2017 U.S. champion Chris Hanson will make his fourth career appearance at the ToC in a bid for his first career main draw appearance. The world No. 67 faces a difficult draw in the form of the qualifying two seed and world No. 28 Alan Clyne at the Yale Club at 6:15pm.

World No. 88 Faraz Khan aims for his first career ToC victory in his sixth tournament appearance. The twenty-four-year-old plays England’s world No. 45 Chris Simpson at the Princeton Club at 7:45pm.

Two-time U.S. junior champion and current University of Pennsylvania freshman Andrew Douglas is set to make his second ToC appearance. The Brooklyn-native awaits France’s world No. 29 Gregoire Marche in their first match up at the New York Athletic Club at 5:30pm.

Franklin & Marshall graduate Dylan Cunningham and Yale Sophomore Spencer Lovejoy both make their ToC debuts in qualifying. Lovejoy faces world No. 30 Max Lee at the Harvard Club at 6:15pm, while Cunningham plays world No. 31 Greg Lobban at the Harvard Club at 7:45pm.

Two rounds of men’s qualifying, January 16-17, will determine eight qualifiers in total from the field of thirty-two players. Follow live scores here and view the full draw here. Women’s qualifying is set to begin Thursday, January 18.
