Team USA Announces Women’s World Teams Squad

Team USA at the 2016 Women’s World Team Championships, (l-r): Reeham Sedky, Amanda Sobhy, Sabrina Sobhy, Olivia Blatchford

Top twenty-ranked Amanda Sobhy and Olivia Blatchford will lead Team USA at the 2018 WSF Women’s World Team Championships with support from rising college seniors Reeham Sedky and Sabrina Sobhy, September 11-16, at the Xi-gang Stadium in Dalian, China.

The 2018 U.S. squad mirrors the 2016 squad that matched Team USA’s highest ever finish of fifth place, which was first achieved four years ago in Canada. U.S. National Coach Thierry Lincou will manage the team for the second consecutive women’s world team championship.

The tournament format includes three days of pool play from September 11-13, which will be followed by the playoffs September 14-16.

The Sobhy sisters will head to China having just represented Team USA at the Pan American Championships in the Cayman Islands this week. Since the 2016 tournament, Sabrina Sobhy and Sedky have enjoyed success on the intercollegiate circuit with Sobhy claiming national team titles with Harvard and Sedky claiming her first intercollegiate women’s individual title this spring for Penn. Blatchford, who was ranked world No. 30 two years ago, enters the competitions ranked world No. 14–her eighteenth consecutive month ranked inside the world’s top twenty.

All four players were a part of junior Team USA sides that recorded second place finishes for six consecutive years, and will now aim to make history for Team USA by reaching the semifinals for the first time.
