Three weeks ago, Amanda Sobhy, world No. 6, tore her Achilles tendon during a semifinal match in the inaugural Ciudad de Floridablanca tournament in Colombia. She was at match point against her fellow American Olivia Blatchford.

On March 17, Sobhy underwent a successful operation to repair her Achilles.

Outside The Glass, the squash podcast, recently sat down with Sobhy to hear the inside story about the injury. For the first time, she spoke about her health in the lead-up to the match in Colombia, the unusual ordeal she endured getting from the court to the hospital and eventually her flight home and her plans for the long road of recovery. It is a heartfelt, humorous and compelling conversation with one of the stars of squash.
