Team USA Advances to Men’s World Junior Team Quarterfinals

Team USA is through to the Men’s World Junior Team Championship Quarterfinals following a 2-0 victory over ten seeds New Zealand Thursday at the India Squash Center in Chennai.

Team USA, the eight seeds, stopped New Zealand’s momentum after the Kiwis entered the round of sixteen having upset seven seeds Colombia to top their group.

Thomas Rosini provided a 1-0 lead for Team USA at the No. 3 spot against Temwa Chileshe, holding off his Kiwi counterpart 6-11, 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9 in fifty-nine minutes.

U.S. junior champion Daelum Mawji sealed U.S. passage to the quarterfinals at the No. 1 position, defeating Matthew Lucente 9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 12-10 in forty-six minutes.

Team USA will now face its northern neighbors and two seeds Canada for a spot in the semifinals on Friday. Canada defeated Australia 3-0 in the round of sixteen to advance to the last eight.

Friday’s match will be Team USA’s debut on the India Squash Center’s Glass Court, which will be streaming live on wsfworldjuniors.com/watch at 6pm local time, 8am EDT.
