Five Americans will enter the 2020 Dunlop British Junior Open as a top eight seed, as the world’s best junior players descend on Birmingham, England, January 2-6.
2020 marks the sixth annual Team USA trip to the BJO with fifty-three top-ranked U.S. players competing across ten divisions—boys’ and girls’ U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19.
Select matches will be live streamed from the glass court at Birmingham University and courts 1-4 at Edgbastion Priory Club. Streaming and draws are available on the British Junior Open website.
Team USA produced record results in 2019 with nine players reaching the quarterfinals, and thirty-three players advancing to the round of sixteen. The U.S. will aim to replicate those results with five players seeded to reach the quarterfinals and seventeen players seeded to reach the round of sixteen. Three-time U.S. Junior Open GU19 champion Marina Stefanoni enters the BJO GU19 draw as a 3/4 seed. Last January, Stefanoni became the first American to win a British Junior Open title since Olivia Batchford Clyne in 2007 in the GU17 division. The seventeen-year-old is seeded to meet Egypt’s top seed Jana Shiha in the semifinals.
In the GU15 division, Caroline Fouts enters the draw as the 5/8 seed in her British Junior Open debut. In the BU13 division, Christian Capella is seeded 5/8 and will aim to replicate his third place finish in the 2018 BU11 draw. Two U11 players will mark their BJO debuts as 5/8 seeds, Reghan Mclaughlin in the GU11 and Carlton Capella in the BU11.
