American juniors return from British Junior Open Squash

Fourteen American junior players who last week traveled to the United Kingdom for the esteemed British Junior Open Squash Championships have returned home after competing alongside 500 of the world’s leading juniors.

U.S. #1 junior female Sabrina Sobhy, who recently won the under 19 division of the U.S. Open Junior Championships, and 14 year old David Yacobucci both made it into the quarterfinals of the girls under 19s and boys under 15s respectively.  Sobhy ended up in fifth place position in her division and Yacobucci came in 7th place in the boys under 15s.

David’s mother Diana Yacobucci said she was very pleased with the event and the outcome for her two children David and Jessica Yacobucci.

“David did really well.  He lost to two Egyptians.  Tough matches!” she said.

“Jessica only lost one match in the under 15 girls division.

“It was a great tournament for all of our Americans.”

“Every American player did so well.  These kids really work hard!  They represented our country in such a great way, ” she added.

The British Junior Open took place from January 2-6, with fourteen players from the US competing, including Sabrina Sobhy in the girls under 19 division, Edward Columbia and Timothy Lasusa in the boys under 19 division; Jordan Brail, Derek Hsue, Anders Larson, Andrew Muran and Mason Ripka in the boys under 17s; Jacob Ellen, Alex Dworetzky and David Yacobucci in the boys under 15s; Ayush Menon and Morgan Huberman in the boys under 13s; and Jessica Yacobucci in the girls under 13 division.
