Gordon and Harrity Qualify for 35k Montreal Open

Team USA’s Chris Gordon and Todd Harrity both qualified for the $35, 000 Montreal Open main draw with two three-game victories in qualifying at Club Sportif MAA in Canada.

Gordon, world No. 57, defeated local Jason Delierre in his first qualifying match, and sealed passage to the main draw with another three-game victory over Joe Chapman from the British Virgin Islands Wednesday night.

Gordon’s main draw opponent is the tournament’s top seed, world No. 7 Karim Abdel Gawad.

After breaking into the world’s top 50 at No. 49 this month, Harrity continued his momentum in Montreal with a qualifying victory over local Thomas King, and a three-game qualifying final victory over Mike McCue.

Harrity will take on Mexico’s eight seed Alfredo Avila in the main draw Thursday. Avila, world No. 39, won their only previous encounter on the PSA Tour in a five-game quarterfinal during the 2014 Las Vegas Open.
