Trinity College is set to host the first adult Pan American Championships to be held in the United States next week in Hartford, Connecticut, September 18-24.

More than one hundred of the region’s top professional players from twelve countries will contest the 2016 Pan American Championships at Trinity’s Kellner Squash Center.

The Pan American Squash Championships, also referred to as the Pan American Federation Cup, are alternately contested for three years in between the quadrennial Pan American Games. Last year’s Pan American Games in Toronto saw Team USA top the medal table with six total medals.

The Pan American Squash Federation encompasses squash-playing nations in the Caribbean, North, Central and South America. The tournament format has seven gold medals at stake in men’s and women’s individual championships, men’s, women’s and mixed doubles championships, and men’s and women’s team championships.

Team USA’s eight-player delegation fields a mix of experience and youth. On the men’s side, two-time U.S. champion and PSA world No. 49 Todd Harrity leads the line. 2013 U.S. Champion and PSA world No. 59 Chris Gordon slots in as No. 2 with world No. 149 Faraz Khan and Drexel’s Atticus Kelly rounding out the side.

The youthful women’s squad includes two members of the Junior Pan Ams gold-medal-winning team, including individual gold medalist Mariam Kamal and individual silver medalist Grace Doyle. Thirteen-year-old U.S. junior champion Marina Stefanoni and Harvard alum Haley Mendez complete the women’s squad.

The individual competition and opening ceremony commences the tournament Sunday, September 18.
