Blatchford Bows Out of World Championship Against Serme

Blatchford (r) against Serme.

Olivia Blatchford’s run at the 2017 PSA World Championship has come to an end, following a defeat against France’s world No. 3 Camille Serme Wednesday in Manchester, England.

The twenty-four-year-old American recorded her first career World Championship main draw victory Monday in a five-game battle against world No. 20 Dipika Pallikal Karthik.

Blatchford, who reached a career high ranking of world No. 12 this month, couldn’t carry her momentum into the second round match against the 2016 U.S. Open champion.

A clinical Serme dispatched Blatchford 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 in twenty-six minutes.

“I know Olivia can be a tough opponent and I didn’t realize she was ranked twelve in the World, so I’m happy to have won quite comfortably,” Serme said. “Olivia tried to come back in the third game, but I’m happy I found a way to work her out. I tried not to waste too much energy today so I can have a good practice session tomorrow and prepare for Friday’s match. I’m thinking one match at a time at the moment because I know if you think too far ahead it can cause problems, but I’m looking forward to the quarter-finals now.”
