Blatchford Qualifies for Hong Kong Open Main Draw

Team USA’s Olivia Blatchford recorded two, three-game victories to qualify for the World Series Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Open main draw.

The world No. 27 from Wilton, Connecticut, first defeated Hong Kong teenager Lau Tin Yan 11-2, 11-5, 11-8 in a twenty-minute qualifying opener Sunday, August 21.

The American sealed her place in the first world series main draw of the season with another three game victory Monday against Dutch world No. 41, Milou van der Heijden 11-7, 11-2, 11-9 in twenty-six minutes.

Blatchford has a rest day before taking on five seed and world No. 5 Nouran Gohar Wednesday, August 24, at 12pm local time, 12am ET.

Blatchford’s U.S. teammate and seven seed Amanda Sobhy will play Hong Kong’s Joey Chan in the first round on Tuesday, 12pm local time, 12am ET.
