Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy will face Egypt’s world no. 5 Raneem El Welily next to the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo, Egypt, after advancing to the $100, 000 Al Ahram Open quarterfinals.

Sobhy, world No. 7, endured a difficult first round match against Welsh world No. 29 Tesni Evans. With just four first-round matches staged on the all glass court next to the Great Pyramid of Giza Monday night, majority of the matches took place at the local club, Le Lido.

It was there Sobhy found herself one game down, before digging back to earn a 2-1 advantage. The twenty-three-year-old Welshwoman then forced a decisive fifth game by claiming a marathon fourth game 15-13. Sobhy regained control in the fifth to win 11-7 in fifty-seven minutes, earning a place in the quarterfinals and an appearance on the glass court.

Sobhy will contest her quarterfinal at one of the sport’s most iconic locations against El Welily, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a three-game victory over India’s Joshna Chinappa.

Their match will stream live on SquashTV Wednesday, September 21, at 8:30pm local time, 2:30pm ET.
